April 14 Weekend Forecast: 'The Fate of the Furious'
The Fate of the Furious is the eighth installment of the series that has become synonymous with fast cars, massive explosions, and cinematic carnage. A strong social media presence and international fanbase all point to continued success at the box office for the series.
Our model forecasts a mean opening gross of $109M. This is not quite as strong as the record-breaking Furious 7, which attracted buzz following the sudden passing of lead actor, Paul Walker. It will be interesting to see how the series that prides itself on intensifying the absurdity in each new iteration progresses from here as the series still has two more to come.
Forecasts for this weekend are below. All dollar amounts are rounded to the nearest thousand, and only represent domestic opening. A larger confidence interval may represent greater variance. Confidence intervals may not be normally distributed.
|Title||Lower Bound||Mean||Upper Bound|
|The Fate of the Furious||$104,009,000||$108,994,000||$113,978,000|
The Fate of the Furious
Fate of the Furious rides into cinemas with furious momentum. Despite weaker critical reception compared to the latest installments, F8 has a lot to capitalize on. The lack of competition this weekend and the overrepresentation of family films recently reveal that cinemagoers have been starved for the high octane thrills that F8 will bring. Charlize Theron is the latest celebrity actress to join this diverse cast with great chemistry, an aspect solely lacking in Hollywood in general. F8 is on track to become the 2nd-highest grossing film in this exciting series.
