February 17 Weekend Roundup: 'The Great Wall' On Top

Both The Great Wall and A Cure for Wellness fell short of expectations this weekend, as The LEGO Batman Movie and Fifty Shades Darker remained on top of the charts. The Great Wall managed to take the crown for new releases this weekend with a modest $18.5M opening, while A Cure for Wellness looks to be an expensive flop.

Our confidence intervals were able to accurately predict The Great Wall, but we came in slightly high (less than 10% error) for both Fist Fight and A Cure for Wellness. The below chart shows our forecasts (lower bound, mean, upper bound) from last Friday next to several other industry forecasts and actual performance.

Title Actual Pilot BoxOffice.com BoxOfficeMojo.com The-Numbers.com
The Great Wall $18.5M ($17.4M, $18.5M, $19.5M) $17.5M $19M $19M
Fist Fight $12.2M ($12.3M, $12.9M, $13.4M) $17M $15M $18M
A Cure for Wellness $4.4M ($4.7M, $4.9M, $5M) $6.9M $6.5M $7.5M
