July 7 Weekend Roundup: Spider-Man Slings to Huge Success

Spider-Man: Homecoming soared to be the third biggest opening of the year, behind Beauty and the Beast and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The light-hearted high school backdrop proved to be popular with audiences everywhere, providing a novel aspect into this classic franchise. Our models’ prediction just slightly overestimated this success, but still, nonetheless, fell very close within our confidence intervals.

The below chart shows our forecasts (lower bound, mean, upper bound) from last Friday next to several other industry forecasts and actual performance.

Title Actual Pilot BoxOffice.com BoxOfficeMojo.com The-Numbers.com
Spider-Man: Homecoming $117M ($121M, $123M, $124M) $122M 110M $108M

We’ll be back later this week with forecasts for War for the Planet of the Apes and Wish Upon.
