Four new films join the race this weekend.
With a large bufferzone, Pixar’s Cars 3 races toward a glorious finish, aiming to to gross around $57.5M according to our models. Tupac Shakur biopic, All Eyez on Me trails behind with a projected opening of $18.8M. Raunchy women’s comedy Rough Night is on track to open at a rather quiet $13.4M, spanning across approximately 3,100 theaters. The latest shark-based horror film 47 Meters Down aims to hit $6.7M over about 2,270 theaters.
Forecasts for this weekend are below. All dollar amounts are rounded to the nearest thousand, and only represent domestic opening. A larger confidence interval may represent greater variance. Confidence intervals may not be normally distributed.
|Title||Lower Bound||Mean||Upper Bound|
|47 Meters Down||$6,488,000||$6,678,000||$7,668,000|
|All Eyez on Me||$17,646,000||$18,841,000||$20,036,000|
The series for Cars continues to drive profits for both Disney merchandise and box office sales as this third installation in the series shows no signs of slowing down or braking.
47 Meters Down
47 Meters Down hopes to emulate the success of last year’s shark horror success, The Shallows, which opened at $16.8M.
All Eyez on Me
Despite poor critical acknowledgment, All Eyez on Me aims to find strength in a high social media presence and the popularity of the biopic subject.
Rough Night struggles to win over female audience members as it fails to compete with Wonder Woman’s lasting success.
