June 2 Weekend Roundup: 'Wonder Woman' Soars and Breaks Record

Strong critical feedback and oral praise allow Wonder Woman to be one of the highest grossing opening weekends for June releases. Wonder Woman and most of its success stems from its strong female turnout who welcomed this break from the deluge of male centric blockbusters. Patty Jenkins now holds the distinction for having the highest opening numbers of any female director at $103M.

Meanwhile, Captain Underpants opened at second place to a slightly muted $23.9M.

The below chart shows our forecasts (lower bound, mean, upper bound) from last Friday next to several other industry forecasts and actual performance.
