June 9 Weekend Forecast: 'The Mummy', 'It Comes at Night'

The Mummy returns as another reboot for the Dark Universe franchise belonging to Universal Pictures. It recreates the iconic monster films for a new generation. Dismal critical responses coupled with Wonder Woman’s continued dominance ultimately hurt the new rendition of one of the oldest cinematic villains. Our models predict a $30M opening spanning approximatley 4,000 theaters.

It Comes at Night marks the first pure horror film in theaters in months. Director Trey Edward Shults aims to continue positive critical acclaim for his festival circuit darling Krisha in his sophomore feature. He plans to translate its success at a much wider release. Our models’ final projection is approximately $10M spanning about 2,500 theaters.
