May 12 Weekend Forecast: 'King Arthur: Legend of the Sword', 'Snatched'

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 heads toward dominating another weekend at the box office. Joining the line up are Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and action-comedy Snatched starring Amy Schumer.

Despite Guy Ritchie’s track record, even an astonishing $175M budget cannot prevent disappointing attitudes and reactions to the latest adaptation of the Arthurian legends. Our models forecast an opening of $22M over a span of about 3,700 theaters this weekend.

Snatched aims to emulate the success of Schumer’s last feature film, Trainwreck. However, weak socia media presence and unfavorable critical reception will inevitably cause damage. Our models track Snatched to open around $18.4M over a span of about 3,500 theaters.

Forecasts for this weekend are below. All dollar amounts are rounded to the nearest thousand, and only represent domestic opening. A larger confidence interval may represent greater variance. Confidence intervals may not be normally distributed.

Title Lower Bound Mean Upper Bound
Snatched $16,758,000 $18,424,000 $20,089,000
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword $21,396,000 $21,945,000 $22,492,000

Amy Schumer appeals to the female audience for this raunchy, comedic adventure of a mother and a daughter. Could Goldie Hawn’s return from a 15 year absence be the saving grace for Snatched?

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

Will the unsatisfactory critical responses help deter even the core fans seeking stylish action from Guy Ritchie? King Arthur: Legend of the Sword is headed to underperform studio expectations of what was supposed to be a kickstart toward a new King Arthur franchise.
