May 12 Weekend Roundup: 'King Arthur: Legend of the Sword'
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword defied expectations of being just another underperformance. Instead, it proved to be one of the biggest box office bombs in history. Despite the whopping $175M budget, the film failed to exceed $15M this weekend. The film has certainly set the bar for disastrous opening numbers for the rest of the year.
Amy Schumer’s Snatched opened at $17.5M, which performed well within our model’s bounds.
The below chart shows our forecasts (lower bound, mean, upper bound) from last Friday next to several other industry forecasts and actual performance.
|Snatched||$17.5M||($16.8M, $18.4M, $20.1M)||$18M||$21M||$20M|
|King Arthur: Legend of the Sword||$14.7M||($21.4M, $21.9M, $22.5M)||$17.9M||$25M||$20M|
